Since launching a long-term fundraising campaign with local children’s charity, Rockinghorse, we have exceeded our fundraising target to enable the opening of a Children’s Emergency Unit at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. The A&E Unit is due to officially open in December 2011 and we are hugely grateful to all those who have supported us with this project.

Our new project - In order to make the new A&E Unit as child-friendly and family-focused as possible, we are now fundraising for the installation of two, 3D Interactive Pain Distracter Units (which include a range of age appropriate interactive 3D software programs). These systems are at the forefront of emergency care for young people in the UK.

It is proven that pain is worse for a child when their fear and anxiety about treatment is high. An important part of pain management is the reduction of this apprehension through the provision of strategies that help divert the child’s attention, lessen their discomfort, and allow them to feel in control throughout the medical procedure.
