Since launching a long-term fundraising campaign with local children’s charity, Rockinghorse, we have exceeded our fundraising target to enable the opening of a Children’s Emergency Unit at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. The A&E Unit is due to officially open in December 2011 and we are hugely grateful to all those who have supported us with this project.
Fundraising events continue throughout all 4 of our venues. If you would like to make a donation to The Gingerman's Rockinghorse fund please click here.
Our new project
In order to make the new A&E Unit as child-friendly and family-focused as possible, we are now fundraising for the installation of two, 3D Interactive Pain Distracter Units (which include a range of age appropriate interactive 3D software programs). These systems are at the forefront of emergency care for young people in the UK.
It is proven that pain is worse for a child when their fear and anxiety about treatment is high. An important part of pain management is the reduction of this apprehension through the provision of strategies that help divert the child’s attention, lessen their discomfort, and allow them to feel in control throughout the medical procedure
About Rockinghorse
Rockinghorse brings hope to families in challenging times, improving the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable children in Sussex and Surrey. Many of those the charity support are living with life-threatening conditions, profound physical or learning disabilities, mental health problems or have complex medical needs.
Working in partnership with respite centres and children’s hospitals, Rockinghorse strives to make services stimulating, cutting edge and accessible for the many babies, children and teenagers who need them.
Rockinghorse has been helping sick children in Sussex and the surrounding areas for over 40 years.
